GameCube
Nintendo’s 6th generation console, the GameCube was released in 2001 as the successor for the incredibly successful Nintendo 64. Though criticized for its exterior design and lack of features, the GameCube made its mark with an extensive, high-quality games library and a beloved controller design. Nintendo used the GameCube to launch several new franchises, such as Pikmin and Animal Crossing, as well as renew some franchises that skipped the N64 (most importantly Metroid). Though not the most successful console of its generation, the GameCube was home to some very important games, and set the stage for its own successor – the Nintendo Wii.
